Kendra is an Elementary Education major (with endorsements in middle school language arts, history, and reading) at Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa. She is hoping to finish all of her classes this year so that she can start student teaching this fall, and camp is a great place to get practical experience working with kids in the meantime. Kendra hails from Robins, Iowa, and has wanted to be a camp counselor for a long time. She grew up going to Girl Scout camp where she remembers doing arts and crafts, going canoeing, and making new friends. Now, she can’t wait to offer those same experiences to the kids who come to Camp Wyoming. She says, “I love working with kids and meeting new people. I’m excited for a summer where I’ll see God at work and get to have a lot of fun with kids and teach them about Jesus!”
For Kendra, worship music is probably one of the best ways she connects with God. It fills her with joy. She also loves being out in nature, which is why she is so excited to be at camp this summer and enjoying the beautiful creation God has surrounded us with.
In her free time, Kendra likes to crochet, knit, craft, and bake. She also enjoys singing, reading, and spending time with friends. She admits that she can sometimes be a little clumsy, but that can add to her charm and silliness as a person! She’s naturally bubbly and friendly, and she loves to meet new people and have conversations. Kendra’s message to parents is this: “I’m overjoyed to work at camp and hope that I can help make this experience the best for your child. I hope that they can learn and grow deeper in their relationship with God but that they also can have tons of fun!”
Kendra’s favorite Bible verse is one that she memorized in AWANA in 4th grade: Philippians 2:3-4: “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only into your own interest but also into the interest of others.”
