McKayla Beltz

For the past twelve years, McKayla has been part of the Camp Wyoming community in one form or another. She came to camp as a camper for eleven years and completed the Leaders-in-Training program. She also served an additional year as a volunteer. Now, she’s coming back for summer number thirteen as the Program Assistant! When reflecting on her Camp Wyoming experiences, McKayla said, “It is the one thing I look forward to every summer. I have had amazing experiences at camp through making new friends, becoming closer to God, and learning new life skills.”

McKayla is from Marion, Iowa and is a senior at Linn-Mar High School. She comes from a rather large family and has 8 siblings! Her goal is to attend college next fall for a degree in elementary education and psychology. In her free time, McKayla enjoys playing softball. She’s played since she was in 3rd grade! She is also actively involved in SODA (Students Opposing Drugs and Alcohol), loves watching Disney movies, and enjoys being outside.

McKayla has a few ways that she likes spend time with God, especially singing, praying, and Bible studies. She says, “Singing helps me connect with God because it lets me give him praise and spread his word. Praying is my one-on-one time with God and it makes me feel close to him. Bible Studies allows me to get to know God better with the help of others and show them my relationship with God.” When thinking about joining the Camp Wyoming staff, McKayla said, “I am looking forward to meeting new people, having camp fires, and paint wars. There are many fun activities that I also look forward to at camp such as creek stomping, caving, all the evening programs, and arts & crafts.”

McKayla’s favorite Bible verse is Joshua 1:9: “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God  is with you wherever you go.” She shared, “This verse gives me strength when I am weak and gives me a path when I am lost. It shows me that I am never alone and I will forever have God by my side.”
