Shelby says, “I am super excited to be a Camp Counselor and I cannot wait to meet my new campers!” She never had the chance to participate in a traditional summer camp as a kid, but as a college student, she attended a camp for student leaders to learn how to help new, incoming freshman move into the dorms and serve as a welcoming team on what was sure to be a nerve-wracking day for many. Shelby says, “It was a great learning experience and awesome volunteer work.” She also volunteered as a counselor last summer at Royal Family Kids’ Camp and loved the experience. Her excitement in coming to Camp Wyoming this summer is obvious. “I am mostly looking forward to meeting campers and seeing their growth throughout the week. If they don’t learn anything else at camp, I want to for sure make sure they know about God. I am excited for the Bible studies, I have never led a Bible study before, but I am so excited to learn and bring what I learn from camp back home with me.”
Shelby is originally from Carthage, Illinois and attends Western Illinois University where she studies Music Education. It makes sense, then, that in her free time, she loves to sing and dance. She also loves playing board games with family and friends. Apparently, Shelby is a HUGE Hannah Montana and Spongebob fan. She claims that she can recite almost every episode by heart. You’ll have to ask her to put on a show for you sometime! She also admits to being obsessed with blueberry patch yogurt. She says it’s great for dipping any and all kinds of foods.
There are a lot of ways that Shelby likes to connect with God. She says, “I love singing praises, I love walking with God, I love writing to God and about how awesome God is. The best way I connect with God is by praying. I know he hears my prayers and I know that he is with me through everything I pray about. I am really active in my church’s Bible study and I participate in conversation all the time.”
Shelby’s favorite Bible verse is Joshua 1:9: “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
