Tyler has a wide variety of interests including sports, listening to music, and playing strategy games. He plays both soccer and basketball and likes to stay moving. He’s also an active leader in his church’s youth group and enjoys the chance to interact with the youth there as a mentor and a friend. Two of his favorite ways to connect with God are singing and being out in a forest, surrounded by nature and God’s creation. He’s definitely going to enjoy being at Camp Wyoming and being surrounded by the 400 acres of forest!
Tyler was born in Nebraska but grew up in Rochester, New York. When he was in 5th grade, his family moved to Dubuque, Iowa and they’ve lived there ever since. Now, he is an Elementary Education major at Emmaus Bible College. It was a good fit for Tyler because he really enjoys working with kids. Coming to camp, he says, “I’m most looking forward being able to be used by God and to watch him work in these kids’ lives.” He’s never worked at Camp Wyoming before, but he went to sports camp as a kid and has been to Camp Wyoming for retreats with his church.
Before attending Emmaus, Tyler had the opportunity to do a Discipleship Training School with Youth With a Mission for three months in Greece and Germany. He was able to minister to refugees there and work with kids, sharing the love of God with them. It was there that Tyler found his calling for elementary education and his passion for working with kids. He is excited to be able to bring some of that same passion to the Camp Wyoming staff this summer.
Tyler’s favorite Bible passage is Proverbs 3:5-6: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own insight. In all your ways acknowledge him and he will make straight your paths.” He likes this passage because “it really show that God has the best for us and it’s okay to lean on him.”
