Abby Saskowski
Abby is a very active and energetic person. She likes to go hiking, running, and playing soccer. She spent 10 summers as a camper here before joining us as a volunteer and now as a staff member. This will be her 13th summer. Abby says, “Camp is one of my very favorite places to be. I feel like it is a second home to me.” She is known around camp for her spunkiness, laughter, and cheerful attitude. She’s also a very caring person. She loves animals, reading books, and spending time with her friends.
Abby is from Davenport, Iowa and attends Kirkwood where she will graduate with a Liberal Arts degree. In the fall, she plans to transfer to Iowa State to double major in Event Management and Business Marketing. Abby tends to be a little bit of a neat freak. She says, “When I was a kid I wanted to own a Holiday Inn because I wanted to clean all day. I still like to clean my room!” Maybe cleaning really is Abby’s favorite part of the camp day…
One of the reasons that Abby loves camp is that she connects best to God in natural settings and through singing. Sitting around the campfire and spending time in worship with the camp community has been an important part of Abby’s summers. When talking about Camp Wyoming, Abby says, “I hope that I can help make each camper’s experience meaningful and fun like it was for me.”
Abby’s favorite Bible passage is Psalm 23. She says it was her Nan’s favorite and now also her own. She keeps it on a mirror in her room. Her favorite part of the Psalm is verse 6: “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”
