Eva McGarry

Eva is a graduate from Olivet Nazarene University where she majored in Criminal Justice with a minor in Social Work. She grew up in Columbus, Ohio. While she did not grow up going to a traditional summer camp, she did go on mission trips and retreats with her youth group. Last summer was her first year at camp, and she loved it. Her joy, compassion, and love for Jesus shone through her, and we are exited she is coming to join us again as a counselor. She explains, “I am so excited to meet and spend time with all the kids that will come to camp! While I am excited for all of the experiences and growth I will personally have during camp, my biggest and most important goal this summer is to make sure the kids are safe, having fun, and growing in their relationship with God!”

School has kept her pretty busy, but when she does have some down time on her own, Eva likes to read, swim, and paint. She loves going line dancing with her roommates or hanging out with her little siblings and having all kinds of adventures. She’s definitely a thrill seeker. She likes water sports like paddle boarding, she has swam with dolphins before, and she has tried zip lining. One thing on her bucket list is surfing. She has never been, but one day she wants to live by the ocean and surf! Her major has allowed her some unique experiences like doing ride-alongs with police officers, meeting secret service and homeland security agents, doing court observations and mock trials, and visiting a jail.

The way that Eva connects best with God changes day to day. Because she enjoys writing, she likes to journal or write out her prayers. It helps her to completely focus on God, and it’s a great record to look back on later. Eva says, “One of my favorite ways to connect with God is while I’m driving. My house is 6 hours from my school so driving to and from on my own is the best. I can sing and listen to worship music and pray and vent all at the same time. I think this time is really special to me because it’s just God and me.” Attending a Christian college has also given her some unique experiences. Eva and her roommates like to read the Bible together. She says it’s a great chance for all of them to learn and grow together.

Eva is really excited for this summer and all that she will do at Camp Wyoming. She says, “I am looking forward to trying new things and building a lot of new fun relationships! I can’t wait to meet all the kids and other staff members and grow in my relationship with God.”

Eva’s favorite Bible verse is Jeremiah 29:11: “‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.'”
