Gael Melchy Calderon

Gael joins us this summer from Tlaxcala, Mexico, which he claims is the most beautiful state in Mexico with a lot of culture. You’ll have to ask him what his favorite part of his home state is. He is a medical student at Universidad Anahuac Note. He describes himself this way, “I have a big heart. I can look very serious, but I’m a very friendly and lovely person.” We can’t wait for you all to meet Gael. He is full of energy, fun, and personality!

Gael loves sports, but he also loves playing his guitar and singing. He says, “When I’m playing music I feel free. I feel like I’m in my own world.” Gael connects best to God through prayer. He likes to start each day with prayer, thanking God for the opportunity to live one more day and asking for God’s protection. Gael says he likes to go to a lookout that he loves. It looks over the city and he can see all the lights at night. In those moments, he feels like God is right by his side.

When Gael was fifteen, he had the chance to go to a camp in Ontario, Canada called Teen Ranch. He says it was one of the best weeks of his life. “I met people who I still talk to today and I learned so much. If I could live one part of my life again, I would go back to that week every time.” That experience is part of what inspired him to want to work at a camp this summer. He is looking forward to having a great summer, meeting new friends, and learning about different ideas and cultures. Gael shares this promise for his campers: “I will do everything in my power to make this summer unforgettable.”

Gael’s favorite Bible verse is Romans 8:18: “The pain that you’ve been feeling can’t compare to the joy that’s coming.”
