John Barr

John is a professor in the Physical Department at St. Ambrose University, which he founded in 1992. He and his wife Rhonda, a physical therapist at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, have three adult sons and will be celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary in July. An elder at First Presbyterian Church in Iowa City, he just completed two terms on Session, and was convener of the Servanthood Ministry and chair of the Mission Committee. He currently chairs the church’s Capital Campaign Implementation Taskforce.

Growing up in Syracuse, New York, John was a camper and counselor with the YMCA and participated in many Luther League and church youth retreats. This gave him a strong appreciation for joy of fellowship in the out of doors. John enjoys biking, canoeing and cross country skiing with Rhonda and friends, and fly fishing with his sons and Men’s Group members at First Presbyterian Church.

John has long-appreciate what a valuable resource Camp Wyoming is for the Presbytery and families in eastern Iowa. He has participated in First Presbyterian Church’s men’s work groups that have installed cabin lighting and built the current deck for the Owl’s nest. As a Board member, he is excited about contributing to the sustainability and growth of Camp programming, facilities and staffing.

John’s favorite Bible verse is John 3:16 – “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life.”
