Juan Esteban Sarria

Juan grew up in a little town called Popayán in Columbia. He is an Electrical Engineering and Telecommunications major. Though his studies are based in technology, he also describes himself as a very artistic person. He loves the arts and especially painting. In his spare time, you can often find him painting in watercolors. His love of the arts is also expressed through his appreciation for cinema and video games because he says that those mediums integrate many different aspects of art in creative ways.

Juan is also a big fan of science fiction and superheroes. His favorite science fiction show is Star Wars. You’ll have to ask him what his favorite super hero is when you see him this summer. Juan really likes dogs and has several of his own. They are often featured in his paintings because he loves them so much.

There isn’t as much of a camping culture or especially the concept of summer camp in Columbia. Juan says that he used to go on nature walks with his uncle and mountain biking with his father. This summer, he’s looking forward to his very first real summer camp experience. Juan says, “I can’t  wait to live an unforgettable experience that helps me grow as a person. I know it will be something that I can carry with me for the rest of my life.” Juan connects best to God in personal ways, especially through praying and reflecting in a quiet place. We think he’s really going to enjoy the peace that being at camp brings.

Juan’s favorite Bible passage is Psalm 23: “The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”
