Matt Mendoza

Matt is definitely an outdoors kind of guy. He loves going fishing and just spending time outside in nature. Maybe it’s something about the silence and the stillness. His favorite way to connect with God is similar: sitting in silence and letting God talk to him. “I tend to think that prayer is better when God is doing the talking while I’m listening for ways to improve my faith.” Matt also enjoys doing things like listening to country music, watching Netflix (his favorite show is Criminal Minds), and spending time with his friends.

Matt grew up in South Elgin, Illinois and goes to school at St. Ambrose University. He’s a Criminal Justice major with a minor in Communications. He did spend a few summers going to camp as a kid, and he had a great time. He hasn’t been since he was in 8th grade, and he can’t wait to be back in a camp setting. He says, “I’m looking forward to getting to connect with different groups of kids and being out in nature, which God created for all of us to enjoy.”

Working with kids is one of Matt’s passions, which is probably why he is so excited for spending the summer at Camp Wyoming. When you add that to his love of the outdoors, summer camp ministry is a perfect fit.

Matt’s favorite Bible verse is Mark 9:23: “All things are possible if you believe.”
