Rev. Sarah Hegar

Sarah was born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and grew up in Fort Dodge, Iowa. She graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in Physical Education (K-12 plus a coaching endorsement) “Go Cyclones!!”  Sarah is married to Trey and both serve the Mount Pleasant First Presbyterian Church. They have a son, Hudson, who will be 6 years old in April and LOVES Kindergarten. They have a Yellow Lab named Maggie and a cat that lives in the Morton Building. She does not have a name.

For free time, Sarah coaches the JV girls’ basketball team for the Mt. Pleasant Panthers. “I love to play golf, cheer on my Cyclones in the sport of the season, and take my son and my dog for walks in the park.”

Sarah grew up going to the Presbyterian Camp on Lake Okoboji which is now known as Lakeshore Center. She went to camp every summer as a kid and worked on summer staff for three summers during college. For the last two summers, Sarah and Trey have served as tag-team Camp Chaplains for a week. They have also sent kids from their church to camp.

Sarah served on the Camp Board and as chair for Bethelwoods Camp and Conference Center in York, South Carolina for three years. During that time, she attended a Board Training event at the Presbyterian Church Camp and Conference Association (PCCCA) conference at Lake Tahoe. “I have a love for camp and am convinced that camp is a place where faith is nurtured and developed in a unique setting.”

Sarah’s favorite Bible verse is Luke 19:40: “He answered, ‘I tell you, if these were silent, the stones would shout out.'”
