Bring on the Heat!

It’s our first full day at camp this week, and it’s a hot one! Temperatures are currently above 90 degrees, and according to the weather channel, it feels like it is 107 degrees! So, everyone has been drinking lots of water, staying in the shade when they can, and enjoying lots of water activities. Here’s what our day was like:

Explorers II
This group took a hike to Horsethief Cave this morning to do their Bible study. The cave was nice and cool, and they got to hear the legend of how the cave got its name. This afternoon, they went swimming and did arts & crafts, and they cookout for dinner tonight.

Pirates
Ahoy, mateys! The Pirates have all given each other pirate names. You’ll have to ask your camper what their name was when you pick them up. This morning, they did arts & crafts and did archery by shooting at balloons on the targets. This afternoon, they went swimming and did a treasure hunt.

Lewis Pioneers
We had so many Pioneers this week, we had to split them into two groups! The Lewis Pioneers did the challenge course, had Bible study, played GaGa, went swimming, and participated in the Pioneer Cup challenge for today, which was Ultimate Frisbee. The Pioneer Cup is a week-long competition between the two groups where they compete in challenges and earn points for helpfulness, being respectful, and team spirit.

Clark Pioneers
Our Clark Pioneers started their day  by playing Kayak Polo. They had Bible study and snack, went swimming, did arts & crafts, and played Ultimate Frisbee in the Pioneer Cup Games. The Pioneer Cup is a week-long competition between the two groups where they compete in challenges and earn points for helpfulness, being respectful, and team spirit.

Night Owls
The Night Owls had a SuperSoaker battle, did Bible study, and played 9-Square. This afternoon, they are on a river tubing trip. They’ll be awake until midnight tonight, so after everyone else heads to bed, they are going to go night swimming and make s’mores.

Thrill Seekers
This morning, the Thrill Seekers went on a trip to Morning Glory, a co-op farm, where they harvested food for camp and Table to Table, a ministry that distributes the food to people in need. This afternoon, they had their first canoe training session to prepare for their overnight river trip. They’ll also be cooking out hobo pies for dinner.
