Growing Faith Camp Talk

Praying for Camp

By Stacie Hoppman October 9, 2015

Here at Camp Wyoming, we (the staff) feel like we are surrounded by a community of people. Chances are, if you’re reading this blog, you’re part of that community. This community is one that has been built up over time, spanning 55 years. Both old and young make up this community. Some of you live close by, and others live across the world, but all of you love this place. You love the natural beauty that covers the near 400 acres of this site. You love the experiences, the programs, the worship services, the Bible studies. You love the friends you’ve made. You cherish the memories you have of this site, the chances you had to grow and learn.

Walking through the camp, you can just imagine all of the lives, all of the people who have come before. How many feet have walked past Cedar Point, down the hill, across the swinging bridge, and ventured to the back of Horsethief Cave? How many hands have clapped in unison around the fire circle? How many voices have joined together to sing grace before a meal? It’s too many to number. But just thinking about it, walking down the road and into the forest, you know that this is a place where thousands of people have come, where thousands of lives have been changed.

You are a part of this community. Everyone that has ever come to this place, that has come as a camper or worked on staff or shuttled kids here year after year—you are part of this community. You are a part of its traditions and past, or maybe its present.

Here is our request of you, our camp community: be part of the future, too. Every summer, hundreds of feet and hands and voices still fill this place. Every fall and winter and spring, groups come here to find Sabbath, to find rest, and to find God. We want to make sure that this ministry, 55 years old, continues to grow, continues to reach into the lives of people, continues to preserve this sacred space as a place for growing faith. How can you be a part of this? It’s simple. Pray for us.

Pray for the staff, who every day work hard to ensure that this site and these programs are the best that we can offer. Pray for the retreat groups who will come this fall, winter, and spring, that they might find what they are looking for and meet God in this very special place. Pray for the campers who will come this summer, eager to have fun, but also to grow and learn. Pray for the summer staff who will be role models and leaders for the children and youth that fill this place. Pray that those who come to this camp would find the same wonder, joy, safety, and peace that you found.

We believe that prayer can be a powerful thing. So we’re asking you to commit to diligently pray for us. Pray during your commute to work in the morning. Pray with your kids before bed. Pray during your lunch break. Find a time of the day where you can bring Camp Wyoming and the camp community before the Lord. Be a part of our future. Be part of this ministry—one of the most important parts.

“Truly I tell you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. Again, truly I tell you, if two of you agree on earth about anything you ask, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered in my name, I am there among them.” Matthew 18:18-20
