Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) Update

Dear Camp Wyoming families,

We have some sad news to share with you. After considering the guidance provided by the Center of Disease Control (CDC) and the American Camp Association (ACA) as well as consulting with our health department, the Camp Wyoming Board of Trustees and staff have decided to cancel this year’s traditional summer camp program.

The COVID-19 pandemic creates significant issues for camp. We know you count on us to provide a positive camp experience. The social distancing and restrictions on activities and daily life at camp would change your experience drastically. It would not genuinely resemble anything like what you expect camp to be. It just wouldn’t feel like camp.

After much prayer and discernment, one thing has become clear. You trust Camp Wyoming to keep your kids healthy and safe. Under the current conditions, we believe having camp would be a violation of the trust you place in us. No matter how well we prepare and how careful we are, campers and staff would still be at risk. Please know that this was not an easy decision to make. It impacts you and hundreds of other campers and their families. It affects the young adults who had their hearts set on serving as counselors and leaders this summer.

The summer camp experience takes significant effort and resources to create, much of which is expended many months before the first campers ever arrive.  That makes the loss of this summer camp season both tough on our hearts and tough on our finances.

If you are registered for a summer camp program, you have the following options:

  • Donate any/all of your deposit and/or paid fees to the ministry of Camp Wyoming.
  • Apply any/all of your deposit and/or paid fees towards a future Camp Wyoming program.
  • Receive a full refund of your deposit and paid fees.

We are heartbroken to share this announcement with you. We were very excited for this summer season and all we had to offer. We grieve with you. We will miss you this summer.

This is not forever though. Camp Wyoming has been around for 60 years. It will be around for many years to come. We will gather together again. We will have s’mores around the fire. You will get a chance to slide down the mudslide and paddle a kayak. It just will not be this summer.  We will see you next year!!

Grace and peace,

Kevin Cullum
