Phil was born in Dubuque, grew up in Bellvue, and currently lives in Monticello, Iowa. He has an amazing wife, Amy, and two twin girls named Quinn and McKinley. As a family, they like to play at the park, go to the pool, and visit Arnold’s Park in Okoboji. Phil earned his history education degree from the University of Northern Iowa and teaches High School Social Studies in Monticello.

Phil is well-known at Camp Bear Creek, attending from the time he was a You & Me camper all the way through his teen years. He worked on summer staff as a Kitchen Assistant, Counselor, Unit Director, and Assistant Director. Camp was a formative part of Phil’s life. He says, “Camp allows a thrilling and unique way to experience and learn about God.”

Serving on the Board of Trustees allows Phil to remain connected to Bear Creek, and his vast experience and knowledge of camp are valuable to board conversations. Phil says, “Serving on the board allows me to give back to camp in a different capacity. I enjoyed all of my time at camp and I wanted to part of the group that continually work to improve camp and the experiences it offers.”

Phil’s favorite Bible verse is Jeremiah 29:11: “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.”
